The short answer

The average US residential electricity rate was 17.2¢/kWh in December 2025, down 3.0% from November and up 6.0% from December 2024. North Dakota had the cheapest electricity (11.0¢) and Hawaii the most expensive (41.6¢), while Maine saw the biggest monthly increase (+9.1%).
