The short answer

The average US residential electricity rate was 17.6¢/kWh in August 2025, up 0.9% from July and up 6.1% from August 2024. Idaho had the cheapest electricity (12.1¢) and Hawaii the most expensive (38.9¢), while Connecticut saw the biggest monthly increase (+9.6%).
