The short answer

The average US residential electricity rate was 18.8¢/kWh in April 2026, unchanged from March and up 7.3% from April 2025. North Dakota had the cheapest electricity (12.4¢) and Hawaii the most expensive (46.6¢), while Hawaii saw the biggest monthly increase (+10.4%).
