How the estimate works
Each row uses the appliance’s wattage, hours of use (or loads per week) and our standard duty cycle where an appliance cycles on and off, multiplied by the electricity rate you choose. It’s a bottom-up estimate: your real bill also includes lighting, small electronics, fixed charges and taxes, so expect it to be somewhat higher.
Heating and cooling usually dominate. If your estimate is far below your actual bill, check the hours for your air conditioner, heat pump or water heater.
